Five minutes to unwind: the case for cosy games

June 28, 2026 · Marek Kowalczyk

Not every game needs a win condition. Some of the best time I've spent on my phone lately has been in games where nothing bad can happen — you just tend a little world and watch it grow.

Tiny Terrace Farm is the poster child. There's no timer, no failure, just the quiet satisfaction of arranging plots and watching crops come in. It's the opposite of a competitive shooter, and that's exactly the point.

These games shine as evening wind-downs. The real-time growth loops actively discourage marathon sessions, which turns out to be healthy — you check in, do a little, and put the phone down.

If your library is all high-intensity games, add one cosy title. Your thumbs, and your sleep schedule, will thank you.
